I recently bought a house with a Carrier Infinity HVAC system. The internet tells me this system requires a 'communicating' thermostat using a proprietary 4-wire interface that isn't compatible with most thermostats.
My furnace is a 58MVC, and my thermostat is an Infinity Control SYSTXCCUID01-B.
Ideally I would like to get a Nest due to its learning capabilities and location awareness. After doing some research, it appears I could technically replace my thermostat with a Nest by moving the wires to different terminals on the control board. However, doing so would forego many features of the Infinity system. I'm not entirely clear on the true drawbacks of this, but HVAC pros across the internet tend to shit on the Nest regardless.
It looks like Carrier now offers a connected thermostat, but reviews are universally abysmal. The interface is supposedly awful, and its WiFi connection is unreliable.
Any advice?
